BLACK HISTORY: Running for Public Office
Ft. Tawayne McGee
Black History Month is here, and what better way to celebrate than by highlighting the incredible contributions of Black and Brown folks in politics? This month is a great opportunity to recognize those who have paved the way for progress.
Join us as we talk with Tawayne McGee, the great nephew of Virgil E. Brown, a notable figure in our community. Tawayne, a former candidate for City Council and State Representative, will share how politics has shaped his life and why civic engagement is so important. He’ll remind us that our voices matter and that we all have a role to play in making a difference.
This conversation is about inspiring us to get involved and continue pushing for justice, equality, and representation. Black History Month is not just about reflecting on the past it's about empowering ourselves for the future.
Tawayne McGee was born and raised in the Collinwood and Glenville neighborhoods of Cleveland. He has always been deeply involved in his community. His passion for politics is inspired by his great-great-uncle, the late Mr. Virgil E. Brown Sr., who was recognized as the first African American Republican to hold a political office in Cleveland. This legacy has fueled Tawayne’s commitment to serving others. With experience running for office, serving as an elected precinct committee person, and a former candidate for Ward 12 and Ohio’s 21st District, Tawayne believes in a vision of Cleveland and the world coming together in unity and peace for everyone.
